I have spent the last few hours wiping Vista off my laptop and installing Windows 7 on it. I’ve run into a number of issues while re-setting everything up on Windows 7 and I have decided to share the solutions here in the hope that is will save someone some time! Luckily after installing Windows 7, most of the hardware was working and was installed properly. The only few exceptions were
Local Swedish Acer customer support suggests that the unit is not compatible with Windows 10 and that there is no updated driver for the unit. In order to get it working thet tell me to roll back to Windows 7. That is not an option. They also tell me that the Media Console driver does not exist for download. - FingerPrint Reader ( Acer Bio Protection )
- CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons ( Launch Manager )
Solving Issues with the FingerPrint Reader
One of my favourite little features of the Acer Aspire 6920G is it’s fingerprint reader, on Vista it worked really well and saved me having to type in my long password each time I started up. As soon as Windows 7 was up and running I realised that it was not working at all and that it had not been automatically setup. Looking in the device manager, I could see that there was an “Unknown device” under the “Other devices” section which I believe was the fingerprint reader as after installing the FingerPrint Utility (direct link), it worked. I thought this had fixed it and it had to an extent, but it still wasn’t working completely correctly and kept showing a “Class not registered” error message. The solution to this problem is to install Adobe Flash Player, It is worth noting that to fix it you have to install it in Internet Explorer using the ActiveX method and not the setup utility.
Finally I had one last problem with setting up the FingerPrint utility was that despite scannng my fingerprints many times, it was still not managing to save my fingerprint profiles and it kept giving the error message “Enroll Failed”. The solution to this was to install the “FP_patch” which was stored in “C:ACERFP_patch”, Luckily I had backed up the ACER directory before installing Windows 7 so I was able to do this quite quickly although it occurred to me that if you are reading this you may have not saved a copy of it so I have uploaded a copy of the FP_patch directory here. Once you have downloaded and unzipped the directory, you just need to run the file named “fp.cmd”, then it should all be working properly! After running the patch, you will need to start the Acer Bio Protection application and enroll each of your fingerprints.
On a slight side note, I found that running the Acer Bio Protection app ( called System Settings ) under compatibility mode for Vista made it run much faster and smoothly. To put it into compatibility mode, navigate to the Acer Bio Protection Installation directory ( C:Program FilesAcerAcer Bio Protection ) and right-click on SysSet.exe. Select the “Compatibility” tab, check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” check box and then select “Windows Vista” from the drop down list and click “Apply” at the bottom right of the window. When you next start it, it should work much smoother!
Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you had the problem with the FingerPrint reader and you are now having problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is much easier than the FingerPrint reader!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer websitehere (direct link). This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu. Most of the CineDash should also work now as well although I found that the volume control wasn’t functioning at all. I tried the usual restart of the CineDash Console by powering down the laptop, removing the power cable then removing the battery for a few seconds, but this failed, so I then continued to look for another solution..
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory ( C:Program FilesLaunch Manager ), right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “Compatibility” tab, check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” check box and then select “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)”. Finally click “Apply”. Now everything should work properly!
The new solution kindly explained by Ash in the comments is to do the following. I have tried a silly number of solutions including some that I came up with, and this is the daddy of all solutions. It will get your volume properly syncing like it did when you had Vista installed!! Make sure that you follow these exactly, I know you probably can’t contain your excitement, but don’t skip any steps 😉
- Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
- Download the Launch Manager here (hosted here) or go to the acer site and find it there. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32x64_XPx32x64.zip”
- Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe. Select Compatibility and choose Windows Vista Service Pack 2 from the drop down list, hit OK.
- Run Setup.exe and install. But don’t reboot yet!
- Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:Program Files (x86)Launch Manager or C:Program FilesLaunch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
- Locate LManager.exe and right-click it. As in step 2, select Compatibility, choose Vista SP2, hit OK.
- Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.
Thanks again to Ash who shared this solution with us in the comments.

Acer :: 8930 CineDash Touchscreen Blocked
Feb 12, 2010I was running on battery a few days ago, and let the battery completely discharge and shutdown the comp, so as to take advantage of cleaning the keyboard without having to take out the battery. So I cleaned everything with a moist cloth, and all around including the CineDash thing which is used with Acer Arcade, but I mainly use it to change quickly the volume, which is very convenient (faster than using keyboard or volume mixer). Anyhow, after cleaning and replugging in I found that the CineDash Interface was blocked, the volume is lit up to full strength, and the mute button is lit up as well, and all that gets pretty hot after a while (but I can still have normal volume control with keyboard up/down keys and volume mixer). I don't believe that I put much pressure on that Interface while cleaning it up, but it is definitely blocked, and there is no way of clearing it from device manager or anything listed anywhere on the comp, since it has nothing to do with that, so am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what to do about it so that I can use that volume control again, which is speedy and very practical. Perhaps Michelle, you might have a suggestion there with a bit of luck, or anyone who might have had this problem (it also worries me a bit because it gets quite hot after a while)

Acer :: CineDash Config - Acer 6935G And Windows 7 64bit Version
Mar 1, 2010Recently I developed this simple application that lets you easily configure CineDash and other buttons functions on Acer laptops. This application, “Acer CineDash Config”, is mainly for mine purposes.
I tested it on my Acer 6935G and Windows 7 64bit version. It probably should work on other models and systems to.
Some of the features that Acer CineDash Config supports are:
•32bit and 64bit systems
•Configuring applications to run and captions for buttons:oArcade DeluxeoEmpowering tech.oInternetoE-Mail•Making and restoring registry backup
•Enabling media keys to work with other programs, like winamp, and restoring original key mapping file

Apple :: Sound Assertion Error In Console After 10.5.6
Jan 1, 2009I was hunting around inside of my Console logs today for something and ran across something peculiar, I've confirmed with a few other people that it is showing up on their computers as well and it seems to be only on Mac OS X 10.5.6.
The specific error is:
Code:

Out of curiousity, is anyone else seeing this in their Console logs after updating?
Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Cannot Reinstall OS From Recovery Console E545 After Upgrade Win 8 To 8.1
Apr 14, 2014Last month I bought a Lenovo e545. I did an upgrade to windows 8.1 on my new system. After upgrading, I noticed several problems with my drivers and installation of them(Conextant audio driver, Windows location driver). Also none of the Windows 8 games work. So I thought I'd do a sfc /scannow first. There I got the message the system is locked. So I thought to reinstall my backup on the recovery partition. This also said the disk is locked. I tried reInstalling from a home made external USB hard disk with original recovery system, this also won't work.  This makes all my recovery disks useless so I can not restore my computer if anything goes wrong...
Now the base of the problem might be influenced by one of these factors:
In trying to solve the problem I accidentally downgraded the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.09 (so maybe this infuences the Windows certificates in the BIOS, maybe a technician can tell me if this can happen) and can not find the 1.10 BIOS on the website to be downloaded and upgrade the BIOS again.I added 4 GB crucial RAM (1600)The Windows 8.1 upgrade is a pain in the ass and blocks the possibility somehow to recover the system. I really need to be able to recover the system to preform a clean system install...Â

Acer :: 6930g Media Keys - After Bios Update
Dec 10, 2009My laptop came originaly with bios v0.3221.
A few days after receive it i dicided to made a bios update and updated to v0.3236. all went well but after reboot the media keys doesn't worked.

Has this happenned to someone else?
Can anyone arrange me the bios v0.3221?
My laptop details:

Acer :: 5920G: (overheating + Restart, Media Keys...)
Feb 18, 2010I have a 5920G with the 160GB HDD and the 8600 GT graphics card.
I upgraded the RAM to 3GB which didn't such a big change to be honest, but it did help with my Ubuntu partition.
Anyway I have a few niggles and some bigger issues with it:
1) whenever I play games such as Day of Defeat/Counter Strike Source, the computer shuts down after about 20 minutes. It just overheats, badly. It feels really, really hot at times when I play. I don't play with heavy graphics, more like the opposite in fact.
It ran Modern Warfare 1 but again, for less than 10 minutes before shutting off.
I have it on a wooden desk, so there's not much air circulating under the laptop. I tried propping it higher up with various things but to no avail.
I don't quite understand what I can do... what's the point in getting a decent graphics card in a high powered PC (my PC before was a P Celeron with 256MB RAM ) if it's not going to be able to run it fast due to overheating..? I'm a little at lost.
2) and that's mostly a niggle... I used Media Monkey as my media player, and PlayMovie as my DVD player.
Whenever I have a DVD in the player, and I use MediaMonkey, the play/pause media key brings up the Windows Media Player to start playing the DVD. It's very frustrating as I have something in the DVD player most of the time and I basically play music out of it whenever it's even on. I'd uninstall WMP but that's basically impossible...
So I'd love to be able to use that media key without anything popping up to full screen and making everything else lag, if it's possible...
The irony there is that while Ubuntu didn't see those media keys at first, a little script later with the help of the Ubuntu forum and they now work BETTER with any media player.
Don't know what else... I tried the latest graphics card driver and wouldn't advise it, I rolled back. Otherwise it's a nice laptop for sure.

Nov 19, 2014Few days ago I've installed Xubuntu on my Acer Aspire 5920G notebook. I saw that blue media buttons (these on the right side of the keyboard) started to work as a mouse wheel. Acer :: Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 And Warcraft 3
Dec 3, 2008I just bought an Acer-Notebook with the Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator x3100.
I did not buy the notebook for playing games, but sometimes I just want to play. First it is all fine with World of Warcraft. Low FPS at all, but everything normal.
But when I am trying to run Warcraft with the notebook I get bluescreens. I know this have been discussed several times yet, but I can't get it running with the given hints.
First I did:
-opengl on shortcut (Bluescreen)
-swtnl on shortcut (Bluescreen)
Then I tried several drivers to run. The latest and some older drivers from the official Intel page.
Another hint is to install drivers of the version 14.33 or older. But I can't find anything like this. The links posted in some posts i found here didnt work and in the archieves of the Intel page are just newer drivers.

Dell :: About SSD In E6400 Media Bay
Nov 2, 2009for the E6400 media bay (I hope that's what it's called, I'm referring to the location where the optical disk is). I'd like to add a SSD before my trip to overseas and I have a few questions about this:
1) what kind of SSD should I get? I'd like to get a 128GB or 256GB SSD. Is it any 128/256GB SSD or do I need to get a specific kind?
2) If I want the SSD to be the primary drive and a 500GB HD to be the data drive, do I need to put the SSD in where the HD is and then put the 500GB HD in the optical disk caddy tray? (I bought the newmodeus caddy tray)

Nov 9, 2009I'm trying to get hold of Media Direct for the Dell 6000. I've searched quite a few boards and come across links to where it was supposed to be, but they've been old links.
I've also been able to download 80% of the ISO on a torrent I've found, but its now stopped as the guys who had 100% have gone off line.
I was hoping someone here has still got a copy of the ISO so I can reinstall it onto the laptop I've just replaced the hard drive with.
